Head Trainer

Amanda Cousins is the head instructor and barn manager with over 26 years of riding and horsemanship experience. She grew up riding and showing in New Jersey where she was an active member of her local Pony Club and 4-H. Amanda graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Equine Studies and a minor in Business Administration. She was an active member of the nationally recognized IHSA team for all 4 years and in 2008, she became a certified riding instructor through the ARIA. Before coming to Ashland, she trained warmbloods in Madison, VA, was the barn manager at Goucher College in Towson, MD, and was the head instructor at Loftmar Stables in Bowie, MD. Additionally, Amanda has coached in the NCSSEL, ISHS and NCAEL, and the 2015-2016 NCAEL Champion team. She actively rides and shows hunters and jumpers and was accepted and successfully competed in the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover since 2016. With all of her training and experience, she believes the basis for all good riding is mastering the basics and having good horsemanship. She’s trained under many great horsemen in the industry but most recently is broadening her personal education with Stephen Bradley and Jimmy Wofford.
